Welcome to My Renewed Personal Site
Welcome to the renewed version of my personal website! After maintaining an academic-focused site since 2021, it was time for a refresh that better represents my current professional journey.
What’s Changed?
From Academia to Industry (While Staying in Academia)
Since 2022, I’ve been working as a Research and AI Development Specialist at Seguros Bolivar, where I’ve led the implementation of GenAI solutions that transform business processes. This experience has shifted my focus from pure robotics research to practical AI applications that solve real-world problems.
But I haven’t left academia behind. I continue teaching Python and Robotics at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where I’ve been a lecturer since 2016. This dual role—industry practitioner and university educator—gives me a unique perspective I’m eager to share.
New Focus Areas
GenAI & RAG Systems My work now centers on building production-grade RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems. I’ve developed microservices that process thousands of documents and queries monthly, handling everything from insurance claims analysis to automated research.
Python Development While I still work with robotics tools like ROS and MATLAB, Python has become my primary language. FastAPI, Streamlit, and the OpenAI APIs are now my daily tools.
Teaching at Scale My course repositories on GitHub have gained unexpected traction, with some receiving 100+ stars. Teaching programming to large cohorts (100+ students) has taught me as much as I’ve taught my students.
What to Expect from This Blog
I’m launching this blog to share:
- Technical deep-dives: Lessons learned building RAG systems, deploying AI microservices, and solving real engineering problems
- Teaching experiences: What works (and what doesn’t) when teaching Python to hundreds of students
- Personal reflections: Navigating the intersection of industry and academia, career pivots, and continuous learning
